I had just picked up Marvin Jr. from basketball practice when, from the back seat, he asked this question: “Dad, how come my coach keeps saying that practice makes perfect when nobody is perfect?”

He definitely caught me off guard with that question, so I paused and then replied, ”You are absolutely correct, practice will not make you perfect. But if you’re practicing the correct technique, it will help you strive for perfection.”

The same idea applies to selling. Practicing won’t make you perfect, but if you are practicing the proper sales techniques, it will continue to improve your performance.

This post gives good insight into performance and perfection. Perfection is unattainable, which makes it a good motivation for continual self-improvement.
